Welcome to Slovakia!

Slovakia is a secure and easygoing country. Bureaucracy is manageable, and one should not worry about corruption at the regular administrative level. While most of the tasks are easy to run on your own, there may be some moves you like to have someone on your side.

Some institutions, like banks, are usually ready to serve customers in English. Although the clerks are usually polite and helpful, many governmental organizations are unprepared to go outside their box – some strictly require all communication in Slovak.

We understand expats’ needs and offer a hand where language or knowledge of local “knots” makes things easier.

Government

Living or working in the country is associated with a bunch of registration processes across different institutions.
And at the time you leave the country for good, you need to deregister.

Taxes

As an employee, you don’t deal much with the tax office. When it comes to other income, we help with registration, returns, and bookkeeping.

Public Health Insurance

Public health insurance is mandatory for every resident of the country. There are two private providers, Dôvera, Union, and one state-controlled VšZP. Let us share the experience.

Social Security

It is a complex system with retirement, maternity, parental, and unemployment support. We help and navigate.

Gov Box

Electronic administration of public services and institutions, also known as “slovensko.sk“. Mandatory for businesses and freelancers, available for residents. You can sign PoA to substitute (repost delegate) this task.

Authorities

When it comes to ID, driving license, or address change, all can be easily resolved at Client Centres or District Offices.

Personal Number

A personal number is a unique private identifier called Social Security Number too. Citizens and residents will get one automatically. Nonresidents can apply by purpose.

Tax ID – “DIČ”

If you are the tenant (have income from renting a property in the country) or freelance, you must register for Tax ID. We help you to apply.

ID & Digital Signature

A personal eID card with an electronic chip is a physical plastic photo ID that can store and use a certified digital signature. With proper hardware (PC or laptop) eID can be used to access Gov Box and digitally sign documents and official fillings.

Residency & Address

We help with in-country residency tasks. Please note we are not an immigration agency – we can not help with immigration visas. Maintaining your address accordingly and deregistering once you leave the country is vital.

Driving Licence

If your driving license origin is outside of EEA states, you will be required to replace or convert it. See if we can help.

Car Registration

If you obtain permanent residency, you will need to register your car under national license plates. We are also able to help with registering a vehicle purchased abroad.

Is English the official language in Slovakia?

The country’s official language is Slovak, and it is used nationwide. In certain municipalities with at least 15% minorities, the Hungarian, Ruthenian, Romani, Ukrainian and German languages are used in written official communication.
Currently, the use of English is not official. Very few governmental clerks and officials are open to communicating in English. Do not hesitate to contact us for help!
